The Smoking Scholars in UIN Malang

            UIN Malang is a State Islamic University in Malang that most of the scholars are Islam. They have different opinion in interpreting the verdict of smoking. Even they are Islam but they have different ideology. Some of them believe that smoking is forbidden, and some say that it is neutral. For that reason, it becomes an interesting topic to be discussed because many scholars in UIN Malang are smoking. The concern of this topic is not about the verdict of smoking, but it is about the smoking scholars in UIN Malang.

They are called as smoking scholars because they have habit in smoking. In fact, men are more dominant in smoking while women are rarely founded as smokers. Some of them began smoking in senior high school, and some began smoking in a University. They usually smoke everyday or just sometimes after class in somewhere places which are permitted to smoke such as café, canteen, dormitory and other places.

 Health is being the ignorable issue for smokers. They still smoke even it has negative effects for their body.  Cigarette contains 4.000 chemical compounds which 200 of them are known to be poisonous, and upward of 60 have been identified as a carcinogens. Thus, smoking can cause a death because it can stimulate some disease such as lung censer, heart attack and emphysema.

Many scholars in UIN Malang get money from their parent every month. They do not work because of activity in studying. They have to spent more money to buy cigarette, thus their money will be minus. It means that they sometimes have not enough money to buy much necessity such as book, food or other fee.

According to them, they are still smoking because they have been addicted by cigarette. They smoke to lose stress or just do socialization with other friends who are smoking. But sometimes, they smoke to show a mature or just to express their life style. They feel relax and calm when they are smoking.

In conclusion, not all the scholars in UIN Malang are smokers. Smoking is not only danger for their health but also they will have suffered finance. They still smoke in order to relax and calm their selves. Life style is the choice of health
